A UNIQUE function, Mahamurkh Mela, was celebrated amid peels of laughter and ‘Banarsi masti’ at the famous Rajendra Parasad Ghat here on Saturday evening to mark All Fools Day on April 1.
A bizarre situation was enacted when a marriage was held in which a man played the role of the bride while a woman acted as the bride-groom. Within a few minutes of the ceremony, the two snapped ties when both came to know about their real status. The function was organised under the banner of Shanivar Goshthi.
A massive crowd had assembled at the Rajendra Prasad ghat to watch this function. The function began with ‘gardabh dhwani’ (donkey’s braying) which was followed by marriage of a married couple.
In the marriage ceremony, Arti Jaiswal (wife of Anup Jaiswal), who was playing the role of the bride, came with barat and married Anoop Jaiswal (real husband) who acted as the bride-groom. The marriage ceremony was convened amid chanting of un-Vedic mantras. Murari Yadav performed ‘Ahirwa dance’ to celebrate the marriage. Later, the newly married couple divorced each other.
After the marriage ceremony, two men playing the role of Brihaspati Dev and Shukracharya came to the stage and opened a pressure cooker which was filed with ‘laddu’ (a type of sweet) instead of RDX. It may be mentioned that pressure cooker bomb came to light in Varanasi after the twin bomb blasts at Cantonment railway station and Sankat Mochan Temple on March 7.

The poets rendered several jokes and comments on the administrative machinery over absence of some senior police officials on the day of the blasts. They also recited some poems on a former IGP DK Panda and the recent controversy over ‘office of profit’ issue..
