Reacting to the prospect of some senior BJP leaders joining hands with Bharti, Advani said, “I am not aware of any foundation stones of the BJP joining (Bharti’s outfit) ... I am proud that the party in Madhya Pradesh derives strength essentially from the cadre.”

He accused the Centre of compromising on national security for ‘vote bank politics’ and said the country was paying a heavy price for the government’s “lack of direction, coherence (and) independence”.

“The UPA government’s kid-glove approach to jehadi terrorists’ penetration in India, both from Pakistan and Bangladesh, testifies to the Congress party’s vote bank politics,” Advani told reporters before resuming his Bharat Suraksha Yatra after a two-day break for participating in the BJP’s election campaign in Tamil Nadu.

Advani also pointed out the country did not even have “a full-time minister in the vital area of foreign policy”. He said, “The Congress-led government seems totally disinterested in acknowledging the ideological roots and global networking of jehadi terrorism, whose Afghan manifestation is the rabid Islamic element in Taliban.”
