SCORERS’ EXAM conducted by the BCCI concluded on Monday at the Usha Raje cricket grounds. BCCI organises scorers’ seminar cum examination in various places. Scorers took part in the seminar in Indore central and north zones. A total of 32 scorers, 16 in each zone, appeared in the exam.
BCCI had deputed qualified scorers to conduct the seminar and the exam. Sudhir Vaidya, senior member of the squad from Mumbai, Blessington Thomas (Hyderabad), Vivek Gupte (Mumbai), P Jayapal (Bangalore), Dinar Gupte (Baroda), Ramesh Parab (Mumbai) and Kaushik Saha (Kolkotta) conducted the written and practical examination.
Speaking to Hindustan Times, Sudhir Vaidya said that most of the scorers were finding it difficult to understand English. He said that two things—perfection and speed—are most important in scoring.
A scorer cannot leave a ball as the media and the commentators will be demanding full details of batsmen, he said and added, “the laws are complicated and we have to move along with that”. Vaidya said that they would go to Bangalore to conduct the seminar and the examination for east and south zone scorers.
Former test player Narendra Hirwani was the chief guest at the concluding ceremony, while MPCA secretary Sanjay Jagdale presided over the function. BCCI officials were presented with mementoes. Rajesh Walecha conducted the programme while Vasu Gangwani proposed vote of thanks.
