Sonia, who had flown to the sites after the blasts, said "the Centre and the state government will act unitedly to punish those behind the blasts."

The Congress president, who was accompanied by Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil, was speaking to reporters after visiting the temple and meeting its priest Pandit Virbhadra Mishra.

She also visited the cantonment station and spoke to station superintendent RS Dubey.

Calling it a "very sad moment", she has asked people to maintain communal harmony.

She also had to face some agitated people who were demanding strict action against the state government for its failure to provide security at religious places in the state.

This is the second major major terrorist strike in the state in less than one year.
