THE COPS have busted a major racket involved in the leakage of PG entrance examination papers here today and arrested 14 students.

However, cops allowed all the 14 students to take the examination that began from 3.30 pm today.

To their shock and surprise the question paper found in their possession matched with the one that was officially distributed to the students.

The big catch came after the proctor made a complaint to the Colonelganj police yesterday about rumours of PG entrance paper leakage.

Cops immediately swung into action after getting this news and after some spade work managed to know about the kingpin identified as Vinod Giri, an inmate of Room No 44 of DJ Hostel.

Some decoy customers were sent to the DJ Hostel where a deal was struck for Rs 5,000. Giri called the decoy customers to Balson’s Crossing at noon today. He was nabbed by the Colonelganj police and the SOG as soon as he took out a paper from his pocket to be handed over to the customers.

On interrogation he spilled the beans. On a tip off given by him a police team headed by CO Rahul Srivastava raided a dingy room in Baghara locality and nabbed fourteen boys.

They too were in possession of the same question paper. A number of boys were guarding this room when the police raided the place.

Later, they were all brought to the university and allowed to appear in examination in police custody. They will be interrogated in the night to know
the source through which they managed to get the officially prepared question paper.

In the past too, there had been complaints from various quarters who had raised doubts over the sanctity of entrance test in the university but what happened today shortly before the commencement of the paper had never happened before, said sources.
