For the construction of second phase of SGPGIMS, Rs 100 crore will come from the Central Government and Rs 20 crore from the State, Medical Superintendent AK Bhatt said.

The green signal to the second phase was given on Friday after a two-day visit by a team headed by additional medical and health secretary (Government of India) Deepak Gupta. In the team there were experts from PGI (Chandigarh) and All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi.

The team visited the institute on Thursday and Friday and inspected and collected feedback on the existing departments and hospital. After this the team met and discussed about the proposed new departments at the institute.

It is worth mentioning that according to the original project, the SGPGIMS in a phased manner was to become a 1,800-bed hospital. While the existing SGPGIMS is only the first phase, two more phases have to be completed.

The SGPGIMS expects that construction may begin in next four to five months.
