Phone tapping: Amar Singh apologises to PM

Samajwadi Party leader said he had been telling the Prime Minister for a long time that his phones were being tapped.

In the midst of his campaign against Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh on Monday apologised to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for dragging names of some officials of the Prime Minister's Office in the phone tapping allegations.

"Prime Minister's Media Advisor Sanjay Baru has issued a statement. There was no mischief meant in my allegations....But I have mentioned only those who have been close to 10-Janpath (residence of Congress President Sonia Gandhi)", he said.

Singh said he had been telling the Prime Minister for a long time that his phones were being tapped. "Even then my phone is (still being) tapped...If Prime Minister's Office is hurt over what I have said, I offer my apology".

He said after being "disappointed on all fronts", he got an opportunity at a function in NOIDA ago to narrate his "grief" to him. "I also tried to talk to him and explain every thing but could not do so".

Dismissing his allegations the Prime Minister's Office had clarified that none of its officials was involved in the tapping of phones of Samajwadi Party leaders.
