After hearing two days of arguments by Anurag's father, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Seema Maini dismissed the application on the ground that the "offence is grave and his release may affect the probe".

This was the third bail application filed by Singh.

Anurag, arrested in Delhi on January 6, is accused of tapping Amar Singh's phone jointly with Bhupender, who was arrested on December 30.

He has been chargesheeted under Section 120 B (criminal conspiracy), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) of the IPC and under the Indian Telegraph Act.

Anurag was identified by Amar Singh and Ashok Chaturvedi, owner of Flex Farm and a witness in the case, of threatening the politician with "exposure".

Virender Singh, Anurag's father, had based his arguments on the point that the police investigations were not able to prove Singh's direct involvement in any of the offences he had been chargesheeted for.
