Peeved at the allegation of Steel Minister Virbhadra Singh that the Himachal Pradesh government was tapping his telephone conversation, Chief Minister P K Dhumal has written to PM Manmohan Singh on having the matter investigated by a central agency.
“Virbhadra Singh, who is a former chief minister of Himachal Pradesh, has been levelling vague allegations. Let a central agency of the PM’s choice investigate the charges,” Dhumal said.
Dhumal had earlier refuted allegations of phone tapping. He had called for a CBI inquiry into Virbhadra Singh’s charges.
In his letter, Dhumal is reported to have mentioned that he was hurt by Virbhadra Singh, who had alleged that the state was conspiring against him and getting his phones tapped.
Sources said Dhumal had referred to the debate on the call attention motion moved in the assembly by an independent member, who objected to Virbhadra Singh’s description of the situation in the state as “police raj”.
