At the same time, around 25 lakh identity cards, which were distributed, are reported to be missing.

Officials claim that these ID-cards were provided to the voters and electorates were denying the reports. They were issuing contrary statement to the officials’ claims.

Though election commission is emphasising on issuing ID-cards and election observer NC Munniappa visited the city and held a meeting with officials at commissioner office and directed them to accelerate the pace of work of photo ID- card but the missing ID- cards have raised the heckles of the administration.

According to a report, there are 85,18,480 voters in the division and district officials have provided ID- cards to around 61,29,783 ID- cards but during the verification only 35,43,789 voters accepted to have received ID- cards .

District officials claimed that 70 per cent ID- cards had been issued but the target of providing the cards to all the voters before next assembly election was still a distance dream for them. They have to complete the revision of voters’ list by January 3 but the officials have failed to provide a permanent centre at district collectorate office or at Municipal Corporation office for this work.

In Gorakhpur district, there are 29,31,543 voters and according to district officials claim around 20,59,826 photo ID- cards have been issued so far. During verification only 11,49,057 voters admitted that they had received their photo ID-cards. Around nine lakh ID- cards are missing in Gorakhpur only.

Similarly, in Maharajganj district, the district administration claimed to have issued 74 per cent ID- cards but the ground reality is far from it.

According to a report, out of 14,84,930 voters in Maharajganj district, 10,94,026 ID- cards were provided to the voters but during verification only 5,68,185 voters admitted to have received them.
