Sources said people of both the communities wondered how the incident had taken place. Though there had been tension in the past, too, no incident of this kind had never taken place in the recent past. Shops were also opened in the afternoon.

However, as a precautionary step, police were deployed in the area. Tension gripped the township following the recovery of the body of a resident of a nearby village.

Earlier, there were incidents of arson and violence following allegation of rigging by the SP workers and the alleged beating of a BJP leader Ram Karan Maurya by an SP leader on the polling day on November 3.

Following the incident of violence and murder, SP (Trans Ganga) and ADM, were camping in the area. Rumours were doing rounds in the area that riot might break out any time.
