PIL seeks ban on CPI(M)

Does the CPI-M, heading the Left Front government in three states in the country, believe in parliamentary democracy or in a proletarian dictatorship? If it is the latter, it deserves to be banned, argues a public interest litigation.

Does the CPI-M, heading the Left Front government in three states in the country, believe in parliamentary democracy or in a proletarian dictatorship?

If it is the latter, it deserves to be banned, argues a public interest litigation admitted by the Kerala High Court on Thursday. The petition, filed by K. Sethunath, a high court lawyer, has been posted for hearing on February 16. CPM general secretary Prakash Karat, the election commission and the Kerala government have been made respondents.

“Dictatorship of the proletariat is against the spirit of democracy,” the petition says.

To support his argument, Sethunath has attached a host of documents, including articles from its party organ People’s Democracy.
