We don’t always look forward to air travel — cold airplanes, jet lag, uncomfortable seating, and often, flight delays. But airplane fashion doesn’t mean track pants and a Tee. Dressing up for airplanes can be a style statement blended with comfort.

It’s important to keep in mind the climatic conditions of the destination in mind as well as the duration of the flight. Says stylist Navin Shetty,“While being comfortable is the priority, it’s equally important to be presentable. Well-fitted, ironed clothes and a cool pair of shoes can make you look like a sharp business traveller.”

Temperature troubles
For women, stylist Komal Shahani recommends layering a top with a shrug cardigan to combat cold temperatures in the airplane. Since the temperature tends to fluctuate a lot, layering is a good idea. A jacket or sweatshirt will be just as effective as a cardigan.

Another option is a pashmina shawl with a dressy top and trousers to look feminine. Clingy clothes should be avoided. For women, a long tunic with linen. Capris or a full-sleeved shirt with cotton trousers is a good option too.

Crease free
Fabrics that tend to crease a lot should be avoided, since they look messy after a long haul flight. Too many accessories are a no-no. Accessories which can be easily slipped on and off are a good idea. Keeping it minimal is the thing. Says stylist Runali Bhagat, “A few thin bangles, a nice smart watch and hoop earrings are enough to look stylish.”
