Verma said he never intended to murder anyone but it happened because his identity was revealed when the mask he was wearing fell off. Police said the accused feels sorry for the murders.

Revealing the sequence of events to the police, Rahul said he knew that a nearby shop has a CCTV camera and that his movement could be recorded. So, he entered the second floor of Goel's house from the back of the market.

"Once on the terrace, I lowered myself to reach the second-floor terrace of the house and then jumped on to an adjacent terrace during which I hurt my leg. There I waited for an hour and smoked two cigarettes as some children were playing on Goel's terrace," Rahul told the police. The police recovered a cigarette butt from the terrace.

"Hearing the shouts, Sachin (Goel's son) came running upstairs. I stabbed him on his heart. I didn't know what to do to hide my identity," Rahul told the police.

"Next, Goel emerged out of his room and I stabbed him. Soon, the two children came running from the corridor and I stabbed them multiple times. I picked up a tawa (pan) and hit Goel's wife on her head. Then I stabbed her with the knife," he said.

All this while loud music was playing at a wedding next door.

Inspector-general Bhavesh Kumar Singh said, "After killing the family, he searched the house and found some cash and jewellery. He took Sachin's gold ring and washed his hands in the basin. The entire incident took 30-45 minutes."

Rahul escaped from the main gate that opens towards a secluded lane. "I had a bottle of beer with me. I dumped my trousers inside a drain and went to the Indirapuram flat and slept. The next day (Wednesday morning), I went to a private hospital and got treatment for a hairline fracture," he told the police.
