Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday congratulated Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan for the victory of Congress-NCP alliance in assembly elections in the state.

Singh spoke to Chavan over phone this evening after the ruling alliance emerged victorious.

Chavan retained his Bhokar seat by a massive 1.07-lakh margin.

Chavan took over as Chief Minister of the premier state after Vilasrao Deshmukh stepped down from the post in the wake of the Mumbai terror attacks in November last year.
