"Countries must redouble efforts to bridge the knowledge gap, both within themselves and with advanced economies. Only then can our youth and scientists participate fully in the global marketplace of ideas, knowledge and information," Singh said while inaugurating the the Jawaharlal Nehru India- Uzbekistan Centre for Information Technology in Tashkent.

"Investment in education and training is an investment in the future of the country. It is a tool for generation of employment and improvement in the quality of life," he said.

Noting that progress was linked to fully exploiting the opportunities created by the use of Information and Communication Technologies, Singh pointed out that India had made considerable strides in this field.

"The fruits of IT are now being harvested in rural India as well. We are working to take connectivity to the remotest corners of India," Singh said.

Uzbek Prime Minister Mirziyoev Shavkat was also present on the occasion.
