PM holds consultations with the Left

With the winter session of Parliament less than a week away, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh held consultations with Left leaders Prakash Karat and AB Bardhan on Saturday.

UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi was also present at the luncheon meeting, sources said.

The consultations came close on the heels of the government deciding to postpone the November 16 meeting of the UPA-Left Committee on the Indo-US nuclear deal headed by External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee.

The meeting with the Left leaders assumes significance as it came a day ahead of the Prime Minister's visit to Russia.
