Prime Minister Narendra Modi honoured Anant Khasbardar of Kolhapur and Bhagyashri Sheth of Rajkot, the people behind the logo and tagline of the ‘Swachh Bharat’ campaign, on Thursday.

The Prime Minister explained the logo that exhibits Mahatma Gandhi’s eyes looking through his trademark glasses enquiring whether we have fulfilled his dream of a clean India.

Khasbardar was honoured along with Bhagyashri Sheth, who came up with the tagline of ‘Ek kadam swachhta ki ore,’ by the PM at the launch of the campaign at Rajpath.

A graphic designer by profession, Khasbardar was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 50,000 while Bhagyasri received Rs. 25,000, along with a commendation certificate each.

“I like both Che Guevara and Narendra Modi. They represent the two ends of the political spectrum — left and right,” said Khasbardar, who runs an advertising agency in Kolhapur.

“When the logo was completed, I knew I have got it right because of the cleanliness it exuded. It was not cluttered. Just few lines expressed everything. May be that’s what PM also liked about it as it fit with the concept of cleanliness,” added Khasbardar.
