Pankaj Vohra in A PM so helpless? (Between Us, February 21) competently criticises the prime minister’s helplessness during his recent interaction with the electronic media. Compulsions of coalition politics, lack of cooperation from states, and intra-party squabbles are some of the obstacles before the government. Instead of resolving them, the PM is using them to justify the UPA’s weaknesses.

Manmohan Singh has mastered the art of passing the buck. He blames former telecom minister A Raja for the 2G mess, Isro for the Devas-Isro deal, the BJP for disrupting Parliament and the non-passage of important bills and coalition partners for all other problems. The PM’s job seems to be no different from that of a sarkari babu who enjoys all the perks but isn’t accountable to anyone.

In defence of the army

The report Armymen robbers’ gang busted, four arrested (February 17) portrays an incorrect image of the Indian Army. Though the content of the report clarifies that the “robbers posed as armymen” while carrying out their crime, the heading is misleading.

Revolution 2.0

With reference to the editorial Second wave of sandstorm (Our Take, February 21), the peoples’ revolution in the Arab world against autocrats is slowly spreading. It will be prudent for oligarchs to step down and peacefully make way for democracies.
