PM's initiatives would reduce terrorism in J&K

There is some improvement in the situation in Jammu and Kashmir and terrorist influx reduced after completion of the border fencing.

Army Commander, Northern Command, Lt Gen Deepak Kapoor said it is hoped that the peace initiatives taken by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh would reduce terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir.

There is some improvement in the situation in Jammu and Kashmir and terrorist influx reduced after completion of the border fencing.

The terrorists were not only taking the Indo-Pak border route but other routes too, he told reporters.

Kapoor laid the foundation stone of the permanent headquarter complex of 39 Mountain Battalion, shifted from Yol to Holta near Palampur.

Later addressing army officers, families of martyrs and local people, Kapoor said the scenic beauty of Palampur is bewitching and the layout of the new complex would be unique conforming to the surroundings.

He said army would also initiate steps to participate in the development of the area.
