In his first post / tweet on Wednesday, the PM put a detailed description of Tadasana (the palm tree posture), adding that he will be sharing details of different asana daily.

The UN declared June 21 the first International Day of Yoga after adopting a measure proposed by the NDA government. Modi used his first speech at the UN General Assembly last September to call for such a day to be recognised.

The Centre is also organising an event on June 21 to mark Yoga Day during which Prime Minister Narendra Modi will perform yoga as part of his drive to popularise the ancient discipline around the world.

Modi, who practices Yoga daily, will lead the June 21 celebrations. “Yogasanas are capable of bringing about stability of body and mind, involve adopting various psycho-physical patterns and giving one an ability to maintain a body position comfortably for a considerable length of time,” Modi wrote on Wednesday.

But the Congress’ response to the government's initiative remained cold: "Fund utilisation by Ayush Ministry is the lowest –43%-- indicating that the PM's tantrum on pushing Yoga globally is just a show off," party spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said.

The government aims to achieve a massive turn-out at the early morning event at Raj path. The information and broadcasting ministry has also planned a massive campaign involving various bodies and organizations of the entertainment industry.

"This is one of the most important things that we are giving to the world. It is not only swasth India but Swasth World," an upbeat Ayush minister Shripad Yesso Naik said.
