Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday sought cooperation from the opposition to push key financial agenda and the Telangana bill even as the parties plan to confront the government on many issues, including price rise.
Coming out of the all-party meeting chaired by Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, Singh said, “Whatever urgent financial business is there, it will have to be transacted on a priority basis. On behalf of the government, we will do everything to ensure that both the Houses run smoothly and in this regard we seek the cooperation of all segments of the two Houses.”
Meanwhile, almost all leaders demanded the extension of the winter session as it is slated for just 12 working days. The government has prepared a list of 38 bills to be passed during the session. While the PM asserted that the government is committed to the formation of the new state, parliamentary affairs minister Kamal Nath said that finance minister P Chidambaram is talking to the opposition to build a consensus on key reforms issues. The UPA is keen to pass the direct taxes code bill and the insurance act (amendment) bill.

The Left and the BJP may bring an adjournment motion on the sensitive issue of price rise, hoping to split the unity of the UPA. “Leader of the Opposition Sushma Swaraj had called me. We agreed on bringing an adjournment motion,” CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta told HT.
