"The Prime Minister should honour all commitments made during the debate in both houses of Parliament on the deal, before signing it," he told reporters in Chennai.

"He should take the nation into confidence about the status of the deal and its terms and conditions. The BJP has always expressed its serious reservation about the deal and will ensure that it is scrapped as soon as it comes to power."

Urging the Central government to create a conducive atmosphere for scientists to conduct research, he said this was needed to develop a full cycle of thorium-based nuclear technology to make India self-sufficient in power generation through nuclear reactors.

Dwelling on the agreement on the agricultural sector, Joshi alleged that in the name of a second green revolution, conditions totally detrimental to the future of Indian agriculture were being imposed on farmers and researchers.

Indian farmers will be forced to adopt genetically modified crops and have to pay exorbitant royalties to MNCs, which be a catastrophe for debt-ridden farmers.
