PM, Sonia to campaign in Mumbai

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi will visit the city this weekend to campaign for the October 13 assembly elections in Maharashtra.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi will visit the city this weekend to campaign for the October 13 assembly elections in Maharashtra.

"The Congress chief will address an election rally at the MMRDA grounds in suburban Bandra on October 10, while Singh will interact with prominent personalities in Mumbai and also address the media on October 11," Mumbai Congress chief Kripashankar Singh told reporters here today.

Sonia was scheduled to address a rally at Shivaji Park on October 6 which was later postponed by a day. But the meeting was called off because of heavy rains.

She has already addressed rallies in North Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidarbha on October 6 and 7.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha K Rehman Khan, who is the AICC observer for Mumbai, Thane and Konkan said the election campaign has progressed satisfactorily.

"We are confident of winning maximum seats in this belt and forming government on our own," he said. In Mumbai, Congress is contesting 29 and NCP seven seats out of 36.
