The two heads of government will give renewed political impetus to the further implementation of the action plan, adopted by Singh and British Premier Tony Blair at the sixth India-EU summit, held in New Delhi last September.

The action plan provides for the establishment of a wide-ranging strategic partnership between India and the EU, and marks the high point of a relationship stretching back to the early 1960s.

Singh and Vanhanen are also expected to discuss a range of political issues including the fight against terrorism. In this connection the EU has already put a number of terrorist organisations notified to it by India on its proscribed list.

Cooperation in scientific research and technology has also emerged as a key element in India-EU relations.
