Tension prevailed between two communities in Dhar town on Sunday, about 60-kilometre west of Indore headquarters, after a youth allegedly teased a girl.

According to information, the girl, a Class 10 student, was teased by a group of youths on Sunday evening at Pattha Choupati when she was on her way to coaching class.

The accused, identified as Zakir who works as a tailor, held her hand and tried to click her photographs with his mobile phone. However, the girl snatched the mobile phone and slapped the youth.

Not to accept this insult, Zakir and his two friends tried to molest the girl. This alerted the passersby who gathered at the spot to see what was happening. Sensing trouble, the youths fled.

Later, the girl along with her parents reached the Kotwali police station and lodged a complaint against the youth.

As soon as the news spread in the town, scores of Right Wing members assembled at the police station and demanded immediate action against those involved in the incident.

The protesters alleged that the police try to hush-up this type of incidents by delaying the registration of case and this casual attitude is exactly why girl-teasing incidents are on rise in the town.

Police reached the spot and tried to pacify the crowd. However, when the situation turned tense, the strength of the force was increased by deploying special action force (SAF) in the area following the area’s previous record of tensions. The situation finally came under control after 11.30 pm.

Earlier on Saturday too, three persons had teased a minor girl at Villa Colony Square.
