Police raided the house of the IRCON engineer, whose identity has not been revealed, in Sarwal belt of this city on Wednesday night and took him into custody after a probe revealed that the number of a cell phone from which a call had been made by a suspected Hizb terrorist was issued in his name, they said.

The raid was conducted after BSNL authorities confirmed that the mobile number used by the militant had indeed been issued in the name of the engineer, they said.

A Special Police Officer-turned-Hizb terrorist Yasin had reportedly made a call to the police control room in Rajouri on May 25, posing as the headman of village Dhelari in Kandi belt of the this district, claiming that a number of civilians of the minority community have been massacred there.

Further investigations showed that Yasin allegedly made the call from his mobile phone to trigger panic among people, officials said.

The engineer was on Thursday shifted to Rajouri from Sarwal for questioning to ascertain as to how a sim card issued to him had fallen in the hand of a top Hizb terrorist, the sources said.
