Police arrests five in Amritsar eve teasing case

The Amritsar police today have arrested five persons in a case where a 21-year-old girl was teased and beaten up by a few boys yesterday.

The Amritsar police on Friday have arrested five persons in a case where a 21-year-old girl was teased and beaten up by a few boys on Thursday.

On Thursday evening, a few boys, near Parkash Vihar area, started teasing the girl when she was returning home after attending a tuition class.

The girl's brother confronted the eve-teasers and was beaten up by them. The brother and sister managed to escape and reached home with wounds and torn clothes.

Minutes later, the same eve teasers along with 7-8 more boys, entered their house and started beating the girl and the members in her family.

The victim mentioned that she was beaten up with a rod, leading to an injury in her leg.

All the boys ran away after the attack and the victim's family lodged a complaint with the local police.

The girl was rushed to the hospital where she was under treatment.

The victim is a student of B.Com (Ist) year in Verka College of the Guru Nanak Dev University.

The police started conducting raids and claimed to have arrested five persons.

"Raids had been continuing since last evening and on Friday we have arrested five persons identified as Kulwant Singh, Rahul, Kamal Kapoor, Gaurav and Sawinder Singh."

Meanwhile, various organizations including Punjab student Union, Punjab Istri Sabha and CPI condemned the incident and also staged a protest.

All of them demanded strict action against the accused and also mentioned that the police needs to tighten up the security to keep a check on such incidents.
