Declaring the 12th Aga Syed Mehdi Memorial Cricket tournament open along with Budgam legislator Aga Ruhullah at the Sports Stadium, Budgam, Mir said, "The tournament is being successfully run for the last 12 years by the Sheikh ul Alam sports academy in collaboration with the J&K police."

He said the tournament is turning out to be one of the biggest cricket tournaments so far. "This cricket league has made a good impact over the youth. The sole aim of police to organise these tournaments and sports festivals is to provide a platform for the youth to excel in the sporting arena," he added.

He said there was a lot of competition in every field. "Our youth need to work hard to excel in these fields," he said.

"It feels proud to see the J&K police at the forefront to support the youth in gaining excellence so that they can bring laurels for themselves, families, districts they belong to and the state," said Mir.

Mir said the police, besides sharing this extra responsibility, need not to overlook their core work of policing.
