The clash ensued when the Congress workers tried to put up a hoarding on wooden poles at a park where the statue of BJP ideologue Deen Dayal Upadhyaya existed and was covered by iron railings.

Accidentally one of the poles fell down and damaged the iron railings and flowerpots. When the information about the mishap reached the BJP office, hundreds of BJP workers reached Phoolbagh and started shouting slogans against the Congress.

Within a span of few minutes, workers of both the political parties came face-to-face and started shouting slogans against each other.

However, the timely intervention of the Kotwali police prevented the situation from taking an ugly turn. BJP leaders Surendra Maithani, Neeraj Dixit, Srikrishna Dixit along with their supporters reached the Phoolbagh ground and accused the Congress workers for deliberately destroying the railing of the park and hurting the sentiments of BJP supporters.

BJP Media spokesperson Anoop Awasthi accused THE Congress workers of indulging in hooliganism and deliberately destroying the railings. District BJP president Rakesh Sonkar also expressed his resentment over the incident and demanded immediate repairing of the railings.
