Police bust LeT module in J-K

Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday claimed to have busted a module of Lashker-e-Taiba (LeT) outfit with the arrest of two overground workers of the outfit planning to carry out a “major strike” in Srinagar.

Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday claimed to have busted a module of Lashker-e-Taiba (LeT) outfit with the arrest of two overground workers of the outfit planning to carry out a “major strike” in Srinagar.

Fayaz Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Kishtwar and Mohammad Yousuf Panchoo of Banihal were arrested on a specific information from Dalgate, tourist hub of the city, a police spokesman said.

A live hand grenade, Rs 25,000 and some “incriminating documents” were recovered from them.

Bhat is an employee of Central University at Parraypora Baghat in the city, while Panchoo is a released militant of LeT, the spokesman said.

He said their rented accommodation at Hyderpora on Srinagar-airport road was raided and a battery circuit for Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) and some incriminating documents were recovered.

They confessed that they were behind the grenade blast in Dalgate area last month and in contact with senior cadres of the LeT.

“They were intending a major strike in the city,” he said.
