Refusing to either confirm or deny the alleged role of international terror outfit Al-Qaeda in the July 11 Mumbai serial bomb blast case, Mahararashtra Deputy Chief Minister RR Patil on Sunday said the police was "close to cracking" it.
"I can't either confirm or deny the involvement of Al-Qaeda but I can confirm that police was on the right track of investigation and close to cracking the blasts conspiracy," Patil, who also holds the Home portfolio, told reporters here.
The investigation was not only on the right track but with sufficient speed, he added.
The NCP leader, who was here to attend a party 'Chintan Shibir' (preparatory camp) for the forthcoming local body elections in Maharashtra, said the state cabinet has agreed in principle to raise Rs 16,000 crore loan to clear the developmental backlog of all drought-hit regions including Vidarbha and Marathwada.
Admitting that lack of irrigation facilities was the reason behind crop failure and subsequent suicide by debt-ridden farmers, Patil said DF government was committed to "all round solution to the crisis".
Patil also said the implementation of financial packages announced by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh for Vidarbha farmers was in full swing and is being monitored by the state.
