Assam Police on Saturday denied reports in a section of the media that it had knowledge of slain FCI official P C Ram's presence in Borkapanitema village in Kamrup district where he was killed during a gun battle between police and ULFA cadres.
The Assam Tribune had reported on Saturday that Ram, before being killed in the crossfire, had shouted to an advancing police team: "Mein Ram hoon, mujhe mat maro (I am Ram, do not kill me)."
The chief public relations officer of police said in a statement: "This is to clarify that there is no truth in this report."
It also denied reports published in a section of the press that quoted Ram's son Prabin Gautam as saying that his father, who was kidnapped by the ULFA on April 17, would be released on July 12.
The statement said "at no point in time he (Prabin) shared this information with the police and civil authorities".
The reports came to the notice of Assam Police after Prabin's return to New Delhi, the statement said.
Ram was killed after being caught in crossfire between an Assam Police team and the ULFA on July 12 and his body was subsequently identified by Prabin.
