Police fail to seek custody of Dr Talwar

Dr Talwar has been straightaway sent in judicial custody when the police failed to request the court to grant them his custody on Friday, reports Kapil Datta.

The Noida police again failed to apply for Dr Rajesh Talwar’s remand on Saturday. Dr Talwar had been straightaway sent in judicial custody when the police failed to request the court to grant them his custody on Friday.

Senior police officers expressed surprise at Noida police’s decision not to request for Talwar’s custody when they had failed to recover the weapon of offence, the mobile phones of Aarushi and Hemraj and clothes worn by Talwar on the day the crime was committed.

“It is a fault on part of the police. They should have demanded Talwar’s police remand. It would have helped them make recoveries and given them more time to investigate and interrogate. They have lost an opportunity to get more evidence,” said Ajai Raj Sharma, former chief of UP and Delhi Police.

Meanwhile, Talwar’s advocate Mahender Pratap Singh moved his bail application at Chief Judicial Magistrate’s court which would be heard on Monday.

“We have stated in the bail application that Talwar has been implicated in the case on the basis of false and concocted statements. Further there is direct evidence and no recovery has been made,” said Talwar’s lawyer.

It further says, “After the incident, Talwar was in constant touch with the police. The police might make fake recoveries when they take him on remand. A father killing his daughter cannot be even thought of. Talwar is a reputed doctor and has never been involved in any criminal case before.”

IGP Gurdarshan Singh had said Talwar hadn’t confessed to the crime and was arrested on the basis of circumstantial evidence and discrepancies in his statement.
