Police file chargesheet in Balco chimney collapse case

Police have filed a 70,000-page charge sheet against officials of Bharat Aluminium Company, Chinese company Sepco and GDCL in connection with the collapse of a chimney at a BALCO power plant in September last year that killed 41 workers.

Police have filed a 70,000-page charge sheet against officials of Bharat Aluminium Company, Chinese company Sepco and GDCL in connection with the collapse of a chimney at a BALCO power plant in September last year that killed 41 workers.

Superintendent of Police Ratanlal Dangi said the police yesterday filed the charge sheet against the officials
of companies engaged in constructing the chimney.

The chargesheet that runs into 70,000 pages incorporates various investigation reports compiled by the
police that discuss the factors responsible for the collapse of the chimney, he said.

The chimney at the under construction 1200 mw power plant collapsed on September 24, 2009 killing 41 labourers.
The Chhattisgarh government has also ordered a judicial enquiry into the matter.
