The BJP has also appointed a committee headed by Surya Pratap Shahi and comprising Ashok Kataria and Rajendra Tiwari to probe an incident in which the police resorted to lathicharge on the BJP workers in Pratapgarh and Sultanpur when they were staging a demonstration.

Talking to reporters, state party president Keshri Nath Tripathi said that the Mulayam Government was trying to fool the youths by giving them so-called unemployment allowance instead of jobs. At the same time the students and youths were being beaten up by the police at the behest of the SP.
The Yuva Morcha, youth wing of the BJP, had staged a demonstration in Pratapgarh where an effigy of Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav was also burnt.

Tripathi said that the two office-bearers of the Morcha—Dinesh Sharma and Rajendra Khandelwal—were taken to police custody from their respective houses without any reason.

Both suffered serious injuries when the police beat them up in lock-up.
Both were admitted to a local hospital and later referred to the Allahabad Medical College. Tripathi said.

Meanwhile, State BJP president and vice-president Keshri Nath Tripathi and Shyam Nandan Singh planted saplings in the State party office at a simple but impressive programme organised by Rajat Agarwal, general secretary of the Information and Technology Cell of the party.
