Police have lodged an FIR against ruling JD-U legislator Sunil Pandey for allegedly not paying for his stay at a posh hotel in the Bihar capital.
City Superintendent of Police Vikas Vaibhab said the FIR under bailable sections was lodged on Saturday evening at Gandhi Maidan police station and raids were on to arrest Pandey.
Pandey, the MLA from Piro in Bhojpur district, was linked to the kidnapping of Patna neuro-surgeon AK Chandra last year. Last night, he checked into room number 401 in the hotel with his wife without making any entry in the register.
Reporters who had gone to the hotel to cover a function learnt of his presence there and went up to his room. When they knocked on the door of the room, a furious Pandey threatened to shoot them.
Asked repeatedly by the reporters whether he had paid for his stay there, Pandey claimed the hotel owed him over Rs 47 lakh.
A senior police official and hotel employees said on condition of anonymity that the MLA had stayed there without paying in the past too.
When Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was asked by reporters about the activities of Pandey, he said, "Lodge a complaint and the police will take action impartially."
