"Everybody (police) is on alert," additional director general of police (ADGP), SP Vaid told reporters responding to questions about the police's preparedness to avert any untoward incident in the city.

Police has intensified frisking and checking of vehicles at various checkpoints amidst night patrolling in the city, other police officials said.

All the police stations have been put on high alert and station house officers (SHOs) have been asked to ensure round the clock patrolling and vigilance in the city.

Checkpoints at entry to and exit from the city have been set up, and checking intensified, they said.

Vaid said everybody should remain alert, not just the cops.

"Every citizen should be alert to keep vigilance over unidentified and suspected persons, and inform the police in case of any suspected persons," he said.

Calling for high vigilance along railway line in Jammu, the ADGP said, "At some places, railway line is just 5 to 6 kms from IB. They should be alert." The officer told reporters that there were problems facing the forces in the area including difficulty of accommodation, facilities for the security personnel.

Vaid was on a visit to the city police units here.
