Santram Sharma’s family alleged he died due to torture by police.

Late Sunday evening, SSP Akhil Kumar transferred all personnel from Kaushambi police post to a rural area and said a magisterial probe will be initiated into the incident, as the post-mortem remained inconclusive about the cause of death.

Sharma, a resident of posh Chiranjeev Vihar in Ghaziabad, had gone to his son’s in-laws’ place at Bhovapur in Indirapuram, late Saturday night, to mediate in a family dispute.

“My father and I helped my in-laws resolve the matter around 11.30 pm. Later, Iswar Singh (a relative) and Ashok Yadav, a policeman, came and escalated the matter,” said Jitender, Sharma’s son.

“Police were called in and they took five people, including my father, to Kaushambi police post, where he died in police custody,” Jitender said.

Devender, the victim’s brother, alleged Sharma had been tortured.
