Police produce fake accused in court

IN A bizarre case of mistaken identity, Bagh Sevania police produced two accused who were not involved in the crime, in an attempt to murder case in a court. Later, the police nabbed real accused. Now both the real and the fake accused are in jail.

The police have assured the court that an inquiry would be conducted into the goof up that led to arresting of two persons on mistaken identity.

In the murderous assault on Harish, Shaktidhar Pandey and Satish Vishwakarma over a property dispute on April 8, police registered a case against Thakur Prasad, Chhotey Singh, Nirbhay Singh, Dayal Singh and others. Subsequently, the police arrested the accused who confessed their involvement in the attack.

The weapons used in the attack were also seized, photographed and fingerprints of the accused collected. All of these evidences were produced in the court.

The accused were produced in court and later sent to judicial custody on April 9. However, on April 24 Mahesh Vishwakarma moved an application in court saying the persons produced in the court were not the real accused in the crime. The complainant pleaded the police neither identified the real accused nor investigated the crime.

However, the police contended in reply on the application that the main accused Thakur Prasad had named the co-accused and on the basis of that the others were arrested.

The co-accused even confessed their involvement in the crime and in the meantime Prasad was released on bail, the police further argued.

A day after the application was moved, the police on Tuesday produced the real accused Chhotey, Nirbhay Singh and Amar Singh in the court of Judicial Magistrate First Class MA Khan. They were sent on judicial remand until May 4.
