According to the police, the party was organised at a farm-house, “Club-24” on Hingna-Dongargaon road, some 25 kms from the city, on Sunday. Of them, there were around 30 girls, including four Australians.

However, the arrested youths were not sent for medical tests to establish the nature of drugs they had consumed, or not. ‘We have found several empty bottles of foreign liquors. But could not find any drugs,” informed Ashok Baghul, the investigation officer. He admitted that few foreigners were also in the party.

The superintendent of police (SP), Nagpur district, CH Wakade, however, dismissed that it was a rave party. “Some youths had hosted a house party and they had obtained the necessary permission from the excise department for consumption of liquor and supply it at the farm house,” he claimed.

Acting on a tip off, the rural police raided the place at 3.30 am and found that over 60 youths, of whom 25-30 were girls, almost all from the affluent families, who were found consuming alcohol to get high. Police were denying that they had found any drugs there.

Umesh Choube, a noted social worker, alleged that the police were trying to hush up the matter. “It was a rave party. Why police did not send the youths for medical test?” he asked.

Rave parties are becoming common in Mumbai and Pune. But this is the first time when such party was organized in Nagpur.

Rave parties are organized to make the participants get extra high by combining drugs and alcohol.
