“Stone pelting miscreants engaged security forces in clashes in Maisuma locality of the city this morning. Adequate arrangements have been made to maintain law and order in the city,” a senior police officer said in Srinagar.

The protesters are demanding the release of a youth who was arrested for alleged stone pelting in the city during the past few days.

Life in old city areas, where shops and businesses had opened in the morning, also started slowing down as reports of clashes between police and stone throwers reached there.

Some young men were seen forcing shopkeepers to shut down in Lal Chowk, Residency Road and other areas in the city.
