The Gujarat police are moving heaven and earth to ensure that former minister and fake-encounter accused Amit Shah is comfortable even in jail.
When Shah was taken for CBI custodial remand in accordance with the Gujarat High Court order, a few senior police officials tried to keep him off the lock-up in the night to enable him to sleep well.
"A senior official called up the CBI director with a request that Shah should not be kept at the lock-up at night," a CBI officer said, adding, "They wanted him to be sent back to the Sabarmati jail (after dark)".
However, the agency was unmoved. "We have to treat all accused on a par," the official said.
The CBI's lock-up does not have facilities like beds, fans and attached toilets.
Besides, the agency also didn't let Shah have his food brought from outside on Sunday.
"His lawyer had brought lunch for him but we didn't allow it as we had arranged for his food," he said.
Apex court hearing
The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the fake encounter case of Sohrabuddin Sheikh on August 12. Sources involved in the case said a Bench of Justice R S Lodha and Justice Aftab Alam would hear the matter.
It will also hear the CBI's request to extend its period of investigation by three months to probe the Rajasthan angle and hand over the Tulsi Prajapati fake encounter case to the agency.

The agency wants to probe the Tulsi Prajapati issue because he was supposed to have been an eyewitness in the killing of Sohrabuddin.
