A day after three persons were killed in police firing at Seelampur, the blame game has begun. The Congress says the BJP was directly responsible for the mob violence that led to the firing. The BJP accuses the Congress of not doing anything to help traders which forced them to take to the streets.

Sensing that the popular mood among traders was against it, the Congress on Thursday assured them that “it will do everything possible” to save them from the sealing and demolition drives. “We have already taken a decision to amend the Constitution, if needed, to keep the issue out of court’s ambit,” DPCC president Ram Babu Sharma said.

The BJP, however, was not buying it and said the Congress was “guilty” of letting traders down. “If the courts are to govern the Capital, what is the need for a government in Delhi?” asked Delhi BJP president Harsh Vardhan. He said that an amnesty scheme for all violations was the only answer and demanded a special session of Parliament to enact a law for this.

The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) blamed both the Congress and the BJP for the mess, saying that neither did anything on mixed land use or unauthorised constructions all these years. “Even now, it is not too late. They should convene a special session of Parliament soon and amend the Constitution so that the issue is kept out of the court’s purview,” said NCP state president Ramvir Singh Bidhuri. “We want a solution, not bickering and mud-slinging,” he added.
