Chandigarh banned political advertisements on the electronic media for the duration of Lok Sabha polls, an official release said.

The Chandigarh Administration has banned political advertisements on electronic media during the Lok Sabha polls.

The step has been taken keeping in view the prohibition of political advertisements on electronic media under provisions of the Cable Television Networks (Regulations) Act, by the Central government, an official release said here today.

It has been decided that no advertisements, whose objectives are wholly or mainly of political nature, will be permitted to be telecast on electronic media in the area, the release said adding advertisements must not be directed towards any political end.

In case of any violation, the Administration will take action against the defaulting cable operations, it said.

The decision has been taken to ensure that such violation do not take place during parliamentary elections, the release said.
