The monsoon session of Parliament is scheduled to end on August 13 even as the logjam between the treasury and opposition benches in the House continues and many bills including the GST are yet to be passed.

Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Saturday expressed concern about bills passed by the Lok Sabha getting stalled in the Rajya Sabha and said that the government has to think about it as it is “not good”.

Responding to Sonia Gandhi’s black-day-for-democracy remarks regarding the suspension of 25 MPs for disruptions, the Speaker said that the Congress president is “a leader and she knows democracy” and “rules in Parliament”.

Even as the Congress remains adamant on washing out the entire session and the Upper House remains paralysed due to protests, the government plans to place the GST bill on Monday.

Unsure of support from the Congress, the Centre is banking on regional parties like the Trinamool, JD (U), Samajwadi Party, DMK, and BJD to get the bill through the Rajya Sabha test.
