Addressing a public meeting in Nizamabad Sunday, Srinivas allegedly said he would cut off the hands of those who pointed a finger at the minorities. He also allegedly said he would sacrifice himself for them if needed.

Srinivas has been served the notice, Deputy Election Commissioner J.P. Prakash told reporters here.

Prakash said the Election Commission had not discussed MDMK leader Vaiko's comments at a public meeting in Tamil Nadu Wednesday.

Vaiko reportedly warned of a "bloodbath in the state if anything happened" to Liberation Tiger of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) chief Veluppillai Prabhakaran.

"This is a law and order issue," he said, adding it is up to the state government whether to take action or not.

Prakash said the Election Commission has deployed 2,000 observers to ensure a free and fair elections.

The Election Commission will also deploy 150,000 micro-observers to assist the observers, Prakash said.
