Voting in 13 Lok Sabha and 104 Assembly constituencies going to polls in the second and final phase in Karnataka began at 7 am on Monday under the tight security blanket thrown by authorities.
An estimated 1.59 crore eligible voters are expected to register their choice of representatives through EVMs among 79 candidates contesting for Lok Sabha and 751 for assembly seats in elections which offer a keen contest between ruling Congress, BJP and JDS.
Police have been maintaining strict vigil on 9305 hyper sensitive and 12,325 sensitive booths out of the 39,996 polling stations.
The poll fortunes of former prime minister H D Devegowda, contesting from his home constituency of Hassan apart from Kanakapura, scion of the Mysore royal family Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wodeyar, seeking re-election from Mysore and two former Chief ministers-- S Bangarappa (Shimoga) and M Veerappa Moily (Mangalore) would be decided today.
With this, the election process would be completed in 28 Lok Sabha and 224 Assembly constituencies in the simultaneous polls held in the state.
In the first phase of polling, 15 of the 28 Lok Sabha and 120 of the 224 assembly segments went to voting on April 20.
