UNRULY STUDENTS of Polytechnic blocked the GT Road national highway and stopped the Kanpur-Farrukhabad passenger train on Monay. However, sudden downpour and arrival of police forced them to lift the blockade after half-an-hour. The untoward incident occurred following a clash on the Polytechnic campus.

According to information, about 30 outsiders raided the Polytechnic hostel and thrashed the inmates after pulling them out of their rooms. This agitated the inmates and they also retaliated violently and chased away the outsiders. They also caught hold of an outsider and thrashed him soundly.
Later, irate students blocked the GT Road bringing the traffic to a standstill while another group squatted on the tracks halting the Kanpur- Farrukhabad passenger train for about half-an-hour.
A heavy contingent of police was rushed to GT Road to clear the road and railway tracks. Heavy rains also helped the police in clearing the blockade.
However, till late in the evening, no FIR was lodged in the matter. No exact cause of dispute could be ascertained. It is being said that the clash was fall-out of an old dispute between hostlers and outsiders, last week. It is also worth mentioning that the clash was not the outcome of any ragging dispute, however, polytechnic is infamous for ragging related cases.
