Pondicherry: EC to review poll preparations

Election Commissioner Navin B Chawla will arrive in Pondicherry on Friday on a two-day visit to hold discussions with officials of the election department.
Chawla will also review the preparations for the coming assembly polls.
The District Election Officer, Pondicherry, G Theva Needhi Dhas said that the government had kept in abeyance, implementation of an order for wage increase for cooperative society staff and employees after a complaint was received that it would amount to a violation of the model code of conduct.
On perusing the complaint, it was found that although the order was issued on February 28, prior to the enforcement of the model code of conduct, its implementation would take place only after the code came into operation.
Hence the Government was advised to keep it in abeyance till the Election Commission cleared it or till the entire election process was completed and they had done so, he said.
